One week left + another LONG ride and a radio interview...

I have one week left at the Alumni Association. One week left of Club work, one week left of SAA and Homecoming. While I'm a bit nervous about starting a new job, I'm excited. It is a new start for Bessie and I in a new home town...I new start for me with a new job. This week..LATE SAA Meeting, CP Interviews, then Leadership. What a way to close it out...

Saturday, I had a BIG brick workout planned. 6 hour ride, 90 minute run, back to back. I didn't drink enough water to start, and what happened? I paid dearly for it. If you don't hydrate enough, and you work long enough, your body just can't handle it. That happened to me. Thank goodness it happened the day of a workout and not the race. It would have been running for 5 hours if I had made that mistake on the 22nd.

I was on the bike for 6 hours, 105 miles. After that much time in the saddle, everything hurts...your feet, toes, wrists, earlobes...everything. I was relieved to get off.

Tomorrow AM I am interviewing with Ted Webb and Jack Harris on the AM Tampa Bay show. I'm looking forward to it. They were very gracious in letting have some air time. I'll be sure to give a report tomorrow...

What a laugh...

From Chris Iler, best friend extraordinaire...

>>>
A lot of anger from a @(*#*$@ that does so much playing outdoors with bikes. With all the calorie consumption you experience in a day, I would think it would serve to chill your @$$ out.

Why don't you put this in your blog?
Iler

How is this “email incommunicado” different from when you’re email “availabilitado” is up and running???

I wanted to send a brief notice to let everyone know that I will be email incommunicado for the next few days while we move into the new place. I can say without reservation that Cappy's daily educational snippets will be greatly missed.

I look forward to having everyone over once we get settled in.

people are nice...

Sent the email to everyone about the race. We are near 60% towards our goal, and only one email has been sent. Some who I didn't expect to get money from have given. Very thoughtful.

Some give only a few dollars, some students. Their gifts are as meaningful, and in some cases more meaningful, than large $$ gifts.

People are just generous when they can be. It is refreshing, encouraging, and something that is truly inspiring to me...

riding a bike for 100 miles...

So, what's it like to ride that long?

Well, your ass hurts. Your legs hurt. Your toes hurt. Your back REALLY hurts.

What do I think about? Everything. John, Dad, SAA, Bessie, how much my butt hurts, the marathon I have to run after 112 miles, I sing Sesame Street songs to myself (C is for Cookie, Wamba Wamba is the Monster's Song, It's not Easy Being Green, Rubber Ducky, and others)

It isn't easy. But then you finish, shower, eat and rest up.

Later that day, maybe you tell someone what you did, only if they ask. They respond with disbelief that you were going for nearly 7 hours, 6 on a bike, 45 running. Then you feel like you did accomplish something. And you know that you do have what it takes to finish another workout like that...maybe even more.

Then, when the next big workout comes along, you know that feeling is still out there...but only when you finish.
